Looking good the natural way

Looking good does not require a visit to the salon nor does it have to break the bank. Step into your kitchen for a variety of natural ingredients, from honey, oats, yogurt, cucumber, eggs, fresh fruits as well as whole milk and sesame seed oil to keep your skin looking smooth and fresh. 

Cleopatra used to bathe in milk which contains an alpha hydroxy acid – lactic acid. Lactic, glycolic, citric, and malic acids are all alpha hydroxy acids found in fruits and vegetables. They help loosen the glue between dead cells, sloughing them off to reveal newer, fresher skin. 

For a quick and freshening peel, squeeze half a teaspoon each of orange and lemon juice, and mix with two tablespoons of plain organic yogurt. Apply for at least 10 minutes before rinsing. Honey is a natural antiseptic and an ideal quick-fix for oily skin. Apply one tablespoon of warm honey on the face for 15 minutes then rinse with warm water.

Pineapple contains an enzyme called papain which is also found in papaya. It helps dissolve dead skin cells and promote new cell growth. Once a week, mash two tablespoons of papaya or pineapple, and apply onto the face for 20 minutes then rinse with cold water. For cleansing, mix two tablespoons of cold whole milk with a pinch of salt and two teaspoons of lime juice and apply. The lactic acid and citric acid help remove grime. 

For an instant glow, grind one quarter oats and add one tablespoon of organic yogurt and one teaspoon of pineapple juice. Mix well and apply for 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water.
