The skin on the hands tends to show age a lot sooner than any other part of the body because of constant use. One of the biggest reasons why wrinkles start to appear is dryness – either the skin is naturally dry or does not get moisturized enough, so over time, fine lines start to appear and eventually turn into deep wrinkles and cracks.
It always helps to use a moisturizing liquid hand wash to pack in natural oils in the skin that would otherwise get stripped off by usual soap. Use a hand cream immediately after washing your hands so that they stay moisturized at all times. Avoid using soap when not required; warm water is good enough, and kills bacteria.
Some herbal and back-to-nature remedies work miraculous wonders to pep up the skin on hands that have already suffered considerable damage. These include smoothening and conditioning oils like olive or almond, or a combination of the two. A moisturizing mask prepared with ingredients such as yogurt, shea butter and honey can be applied every other day for quick results.
The kind of rescue that your hands need wholly depends on the extent of damage. Creamier nourishing ingredients such as cocoa butter, aloe vera, and virgin coconut oil give better results, but what is important is how you use them to see better results.
Always treat your hands at a time when you know you won’t be using them for a while, ideally at bedtime. Blend the ingredients together and massage into the skin, and be sure to wear soft gloves. This ensures the ingredients permeate deep into the skin and stay there to work their magic.
• Apply hand cream after washing your hands
• Cocoa butter and oils work wonders on hands
• Give your hands full treatment ideally at bedtime
