Traditionally, a joiner is a person who makes wooden products such as doors in a workshop whereas a carpenter is a person who installs these products or one who constructs certain building elements. At present, the thin line between the two has blurred and most companies offer integrated carpentry and joinery services along with other maintenance services.
Carpentry and joinery services are required in several aspects of a home renovation such as installing floor and wall fittings, general woodwork, adding storage solutions and partition walls, and others.
There are several companies offering carpentry and joinery services in the UAE, but how do you ensure the one you entrust your weekend house project with is professional and reliable enough?
As a start, see if the company has its own in-house team of skilled joiners, carpenters and painters and own workshop space. Also check if they are able to manage an integrated chain of services such as design consultancy, space analysis, acquiring local authority approvals along with joinery and furniture craftsmanship. Once you have checked and looked at their existing client list, ask for a reference to see their quality of work.
Request for a trial period before signing a contract. The terms of agreement can be for a specific time or for a particular assignment. The contract should clearly state possible payment forfeitures if you are not happy with the quality of work, or if work is not completed on time.
• A carpentry/joinery firm is vital during renovation
• Check if company has skilled personnel on board
• Ask for a reference to see the firm’s quality of work
