With rising temperatures warranting the need for the extended use of air conditioners, it is important to ensure that the air quality at home is suitable for health. More than 60% of people in the UAE suffer from respiratory problems because of the irregular or infrequent cleaning of AC ducts. With the onset of summer, it poses a greater danger as these germs tend to multiply faster. Hence, it is important to ensure that AC ducts are cleaned and maintained regularly and thoroughly.
The first step is to find out if your building maintenance provides AC duct cleaning on a regular basis. Or you can engage one of the many professional services across the UAE to do the job for you. You just need to ensure that they are doing a thorough job by cleaning all the components which include supply and return air ducts and registers, grilles and diffusers, heat exchangers, heating and cooling coils, condensate drain pans (drip pans), fan motor and fan housing, and the air handling unit housing. After cleaning, they should use a high pressure vacuum to oust all the remaining germs. Service providers are supposed to use approved chemical biocides designed to kill microbiological contaminants. These are applied only after the system has been properly cleaned of all visible dust or debris.
Within the UAE, the outside air is hot and humid so we tend to spend most of our time indoors. It is the responsibility of business owners, building owners and landlords to ensure that the indoor air quality through ACs is maintained at a high standard to reduce the risk of disease and infection.
• Unclean AC ducts pose risks to respiratory system
• Ensure all AC components are cleaned thoroughly
• Landlords must maintain ACs in good condition
