While cleaning furniture with hard surfaces is easy, most of us do not know how to clean upholstered furniture.
It is important to regularly vacuum upholstered furniture to keep it clean and smelling good. To do this, remove the dust attachment from your vacuum cleaner and remove food particles and dust in between the seams.
You can also clean the furniture using a solution of four parts water and one part detergent. Gently rub the solution on the upholstery using a soft cloth. Then rinse the solution off with a wet cloth and let it air dry. However, a lot of us may not like the smell of detergent on furniture. In this case, use vinegar mixed with a few drops of your preferred essential oil and rub it on the furniture. If you have upholstery which you cannot clean with water, sprinkle it with baking powder and then vacuum it.
Do not forget to leave pillows and cushions out in the sun every week to keep them smelling good.
While the above techniques ensure a relatively clean upholstery, it is good to avail of the services of a professional cleaner at least once in six months. They evaluate the furniture, decide if hot water can be used in it, check whether the colors bleed and then determine the suitable cleaning solution. Professional cleaners do a thorough job such as shampooing and conditioning, leaving your upholstered furniture looking as good as new.
