Households nowadays have become aware of the implications of commercial cleaning products on one’s health and the environment.
Thus, some have switched to toxin-free cleaning agents when doing common household chores, and some of these items are even found in the kitchen.
Vinegar and baking soda can replace washing liquids as they can clean almost any sort of dust and grime. Dissolve baking soda in warm water, add vinegar and you already have an all-purpose cleaner. Baking soda is also best in removing bad odors from kitchen appliances like the microwave oven or refrigerator.
Air fresheners purchased from stores can be swapped for a well-boiled mixture of cinnamon and cloves, or any of your favorite herbs.
Dip half a lemon in borax and scrub off dirt, oil and grime from appliances, countertops, cupboards and bathrooms. Food stains can be removed by squeezing lemon juice on the stained area and letting it sit for 30 minutes before wiping the area clean.
Swap commercial glass cleaners for a mixture of 1/2 cup ammonia, and 2 cups each of water and rubbing alcohol to eliminate handprints, dirt and grime from glass windows, walls and doors. Don’t forget to use a lint-free cloth.
With these alternatives, you can surely save on dirhams.
