If you grew up watching Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse, the Simpsons, Toy Story and UAE’s Freej, and found yourself wanting to create your very own world of animation, then UAE is the place to be. There are several institutes and universities offering short-term courses and degree programs on 2D (two-dimensional) and 3D (three-dimensional) animation.
2D animation is the traditional animation process where videos are created either by hand or computer by drawing one image after another in a different position to create movement. The images are represented in height and width, but not in depth. Learning 2D animation is quicker and cheaper. Some of the software used to create 2D images are Flash and Photoshop.
3D animation is very technical and produces more realistic characters represented in all three dimensions (height, width and depth). It has gained more popularity in the past few years because of Hollywood 3D movies. Some of the software used to create 3D animation are Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max, Blender and Cinema 4D.
Most programs ensure that students gain a sound knowledge of the creative art of storytelling, drawing and designing, as well as know all about the technical aspects of motion design and cutting-edge animation software.
Armed with knowledge about 2D and 3D animation, one can be employed with film studios, television production houses, advertising agencies and companies which make computer games.
