A true cultural melting pot, the UAE has several institutes teaching different foreign languages. As trade barriers between countries shrink, a growing number of professionals want to learn a foreign language to effectively conduct business abroad.

Alliance Francaise is a popular French cultural center and language school with branches in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain. Courses offered are for beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels. The duration of each course is around 20-21 hours. There are specialized classes for children; minimum age is five years. After undergoing classes here, one can take the Test d’Evaluation de Français (TEF), Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française (DELF), and Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF). These can come handy for admission to French universities and immigration to Quebec in Canada.

Goethe-Institut has centers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain offering a range of courses in German language for children, teenagers, business professionals, and even those looking to work in Germany. One can start German lessons with the basic Goethe-Zertifikat A1 course. Ideally, one requires around 80-200 45-minute teaching units to achieve a level of competence. It also conducts courses to prepare one for various examinations in the language, including the advanced BULATS Deutsch, useful for people seeking employment. It is a 60-minute computerized test where a report card of your proficiency level in the language is available immediately.

Many embassies in the UAE also run language courses including the Japanese Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Several institutes like Eton and Polyglot offer specialized courses in different foreign languages like Italian and Spanish
