With picturesque coastlines and turquoise marinas, it is often hard to resist the temptation of setting out on a luxury yacht or hitting the waters on a motorboat. There are courses for beginners and die-hard sailing enthusiasts to ensure they can ride the waves confidently. Check this learning guide.

The International Yacht Training (IYT) Small Powerboat and RIB Master course is an introductory course for those with no experience in boating. Classes include theory and practical lessons where students are initiated into safety guidelines and rules, and taught the techniques of berthing and ropework. Those who complete this program are granted the Dubai marine driving license to operate a craft below 12 meters in length.

The IYT International Bareboat Skipper course is more extensive, and is spread for over 10 days. It is an internationally approved certificate, and is recommended for those with prior knowledge of yachting. It trains one in navigating a vehicle using nautical charts and managing a boat with twin inboard engines.

The IYT Master of Yachts Coastal course is for those seeking to work professionally on a yacht. A successful candidate can be employed in the marine industry as a captain of a vessel of up to 80 feet or be part of a crew of a vessel of up to 200 tons. To qualify, one needs to log 30 days (24 hours) and 800 miles at sea.

There are also training programs dedicated to powerboats. Courses include Royal Yachting Association National Level Courses 1-2 designed for beginners, and RYA Advanced for more serious learners.
