If you are looking for a sport which can improve your mental coordination, balance, concentration and bodily strength, fencing is one good option to consider.

Though it is not very popular in this part of the world like other martial arts, karate or taekwondo for example, it actually requires a significant amount of strength, endurance and focus to perform well.

Established by former pentathlete Mihail G. Kouzev, the MK Fencing Academy (or Dubai Fencing Club as it is commonly known) specializes in the epee form of fencing. Kouzev still serves as the head coach in the club which offers fencing classes of various grades for men, women and children alike.

The International Fencing Club in Dubai is one of the first clubs to provide fencing classes in the UAE. It offers a wide range of classes for beginner to expert levels, all of which are conducted in a very safe environment.

In Abu Dhabi, there are no major clubs for fencing. However, classes by individual tutors who conduct courses in hotels can be availed of. For instance, Hilton offers courses by private instructors.

Known as the sport for kings, fencing still has yet to establish a firm foothold in this part of the world. The UAE government set up a national federation three years ago to popularize the sport. Competitions are being held at school level to increase interest in and awareness of fencing.

Handy Hints:
