A body massage is essentially a beauty treatment with a twist. Unlike other traditional treatments which offer the obvious benefits to the skin only, a body massage is known to penetrate deeper.

Primarily, it has a two-fold impact: that on the body as well as the mind. On one hand, it is known to enhance natural beauty by rejuvenating the skin. On the other hand, it is equally popular for its healing properties when there are injuries by reducing the overall recovery time and pain. Furthermore, massage therapy is often used to treat specific “mind diseases” such as tension, depression and insomnia as it has proven to melt away stress, and improve one’s mood and self-image.

Depending on your requirements, there are several types of massage therapies available in the market today; however, it is best to consult a professional therapist before shortlisting one.

An ayurvedic massage uses hands to focus on specific pressure points to reduce stress levels. A hot stone massage uses stones to relieve muscle tension in a much lighter manner. An aromatherapy massage makes use of essential oils and focuses on promoting beauty.

Although massage features in a majority of wellness programs, there is a certain section of people who should consult their doctor before having one. While a very gentle massage surrounding the area of complaint must not be a cause for concern, it is still best to exercise caution if one has a medical condition.
