Many men could be forgiven for throwing on a pair of shorts and a T-shirt on weekends, having spent the whole week in suits and smart trousers. However, when it comes to heading out for dinner, is there a halfway point between scruffy and suited that won’t leave your other half claiming “He’s not with me”?
Men’s dress slacks can be worn on both formal and semi-formal occasions, making them one of the most versatile and important staples of a man’s wardrobe.
There are several things that need to be kept in mind when shopping for men’s slacks; first of which is the fit. Men with thinner legs and a smaller frame would best opt for a slim-cut pair of slacks as the close fit accentuates the leaner frame, as opposed to a loose fit which is more suited to men with a larger frame. Loose fit will fit more comfortably and won’t look like the slacks are too small. Loose fit slacks can sometimes look a bit large due to some inseam issues so some tailoring may be necessary. When in doubt, a straight leg is suitable for almost every body type; the pant leg falls straight from the waist to the ankle negating any so-called “problem areas.”
When shopping for men’s slacks, consider when you will wear them most. This will influence things such as color and style. For instance, many men prefer lighter-colored khaki slacks; however, these are more difficult to dress up for more formal occasions. Black slacks are probably the most versatile and can be worn formally, informally or even at the office, but grey is a great color if you like to wear pastel-colored tops especially purple.
Cotton and cotton blend slacks are probably the most popular and wearable in the Middle East.
