It’s the season to party and be jolly. This Christmas, stand out in a crowd of party-goers by giving your look a chic update. And what better way to do that than to accessorize your LBD/LWD with the right arm candy – the clutch. But how to nab the perfect one when stores are saturated with every kind imaginable? Read on…
Color – Hues are not limited to blacks and browns anymore. Now, there’s eye-popping neon, metallic, and what have you. The rule of thumb is to buy a clutch that suits every color party dress in your wardrobe. Think neutrals like navy, pewter, gold, beige/nude and blush. However, punch up a monochromatic outfit with a bright piece for daytime events.
Material and embellishment – Clutches come in a spectrum of material (real or faux leather, suede, linen, faux fur, silk, lace, crochet) and embellishments (beads, sequins, studs, gems, bows). While a simple leather handbag suits any dressy outfit, a beaded clutch shouts “let’s have fun.” Choose one that defines your style, and can go from a Christmas soiree to a wedding reception.
Size – Clutches are generally teeny-weeny, designed to accommodate only the bare essentials like lipstick, cards, keys, cash and cellphone. However, for those who have more of the girly stuff, the season’s lust-haves include oversized pouches that can even fit an iPad or a book.
Design and print – The classic rectangular is still very much around, but boxy, round, envelope and a host of other styles now make the rounds. And in all sorts of prints, too like animal, polka dots and tribal. If possible, say no to quirky prints and designs if you want your bag to outlast any season.
• Buy a clutch that suits all your color party dresses
• Get one that defines your style and suits most events
• Say no to quirky prints and designs so it stays in vogue
