The right sunglasses for your face

It is almost impossible to function properly in the Middle East without a decent pair of sunglasses. Since you will spend so much time wearing them, it is vital to find a pair that not only protects your eyes but also suits your style and face shape.

For those with a rounded face, definition is important for the cheeks to appear slimmer. A frame slightly wider than the broadest part of the face as well as angular styles or a double brow will give a more defined shape. Stay away from round frames. Wayfarers hold a unisex appeal with bold prints and colors packing a punch.

Those with a square face should go for round or aviator frames; oversized or curvy styles in neutral colors work well to soften and subtly frame the face. For a more masculine look, metal frames with dark lenses accentuate chiseled features, while a butterfly frame softens a strong jaw for a more feminine look.

Any style suits an oval face. Experiment with the latest looks and trends. Heavy details, solid dark lenses and metal frames are all ways of drawing attention and creating a killer look.

To balance out the length of an oblong face, choose sunglasses that do not extend beyond the widest part of the head. Go for round or square shapes but keep away from anything too angular that might jut out of the edge to avoid that “pea head” effect.

A pair of retro-shaped shades suits a heart/diamond-shaped face. Pick one that angles towards the top corner to widen the face and balance the jawline.

Most importantly, ensure all your shades come with UVA and UVB protection.

Handy Hints
• Retro shades suit a heart/diamond-shaped face
• Aviator or round frames suit a square-shaped face
• Individuals with an oval face can wear any style
